The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has opened a portal for its foreign postgraduate scholarship.

The commission in a statement signed by its Director, Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, said the scholarship was designed to boost human resource development in the Niger Delta and to equip young people with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the local content programme of the Federal Government.

The commission said the scholarship covered areas of disciplines such as Agricultural Science, Biotechnology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Medical Sciences, Architectural and Building Technology as well as Law.

The statement said only qualified Bachelor's degree holders on chosen professions  from recognised universities would be selected for the programme.

"To be eligible for the scholarship, a scholar must hail from the Niger Delta Region and have achieved a First Class Degree or 

Second Class Upper Division. Applicant must not be 40years or above", the statement said.

According to NDDC, the portal for the application will open on March 23, 2026 and end on April 19, 2026 adding that the amount for the foreign scholarship would depend on the prevailing exchange rate.

The statement further said that applicants would undergo a computer-based test and must score 70 per cent of the marks to qualified for the next stage.

The statement said: "The commission will ensure a fair spread of courses amongst 

beneficiaries within each State. Deferment, change of Institution and course are not permitted. The commission reserves the sole and absolute discretion to select in line with the above stated criteria and its internal consideration".
