A legal dispute is emerging in the Niger Delta region as promoters of the Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit (NDEIS) have raised concerns about the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines, and Agriculture's use of the summit's name.
The position was conveyed through legal representatives acting on behalf of the founder of NDEIS, Kenule Nwiya Junior, and Ken-Eva Consult Ltd.
According to the promoters, the Chamber of Commerce is planning an event titled “Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit,” a development they say relates to an existing trademark.

Nwiya stated that the NDEIS brand has evolved over the years into a recognized platform for economic dialogue and investment promotion in the region, predating the Chamber of Commerce's establishment.
He noted that the name has gained visibility among investors, government institutions, and international partners.
Nwiya added that the trademark process for the summit name was initiated through the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment and progressed through the required stages, including acceptance and publication in the Trademark Journal.
He explained that the summit was unveiled in 2024 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, with participation by key stakeholders across government and the private sector, and that the maiden edition, held later that year, received support from the Rivers State government.
In the notice, the promoters expressed concern that the planned event, reportedly scheduled for May 2026, could cause confusion among stakeholders about its relationship to the established summit.
They have requested the removal of promotional materials associated with the event and have suggested a review of the event branding.
The promoters also indicated that they may engage relevant authorities and pursue further legal steps if the matter is not resolved.
