The Rivers State Commander, Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), CN Bature Dawa, said the agency arrested 39 suspects in the state between last December and this month, including 16 new cases under investigation.
Dawa spoke during a visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He called for the introduction of drug integrity tests in schools and within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to discourage drug abuse among youths.
Dawa, who was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, explained that the NDLEA, through its Drug Demand Reduction and Drug Supply Control Units, intensified efforts to curb the spread of illicit drugs and ensure offenders were brought to justice.
Dawa called on parents and guardians to monitor their children, urging hotel owners and managers to remain vigilant and prevent their facilities from being used for drug-related activities.
Wokoma commended the dedication and collaboration of federal government agencies working together to sustain a safe and secured state.
He said Fubara appreciated the strong synergy between the agencies in promoting his administration’s vision of peace, prosperity and progress in Rivers State.
