The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has delivered relief materials, building supplies, and cash support to victims of recent terrorist attacks in Borno State, with special emphasis on those affected by the deadly multiple suicide bomb blasts in Maiduguri.
The intervention follows the recent wave of attacks that shook parts of the state, particularly the coordinated suicide bombings in Maiduguri which claimed no fewer than 28 lives and left over 100 persons injured.

Presenting the items, the NEDC State Coordinator, Mohammed Umar, said the Commission acted swiftly after assessing the scale of devastation caused by the Maiduguri explosions and other attacks in Ngoshe (Gwoza LGA), Kukawa, and Konduga.
According to him, the Maiduguri incident received priority attention due to the high number of casualties and the severity of injuries recorded.
“Following the suicide bomb blasts in Maiduguri and other related attacks across the state, the management of NEDC directed an immediate assessment of the situation. Based on the findings, approval was granted by the Managing Director, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, for the provision of relief materials and support to affected victims,” Umar said.
He explained that while relief items would be distributed across all affected areas, families of those who lost their lives in the Maiduguri blasts would receive direct financial assistance of N50,000 each, while injured victims currently undergoing treatment would be credited with N30,000 each.
The items were formally handed over to the Borno State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), represented by its Director, Abdullahi Isa, on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Relief materials provided include bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, sugar, clothing for men, women and children, mats, and blankets. In addition, building materials such as roofing sheets, ceiling boards, timber, rods, and nails were supplied to support the reconstruction of homes and community infrastructure destroyed in the attacks.

Umar noted that victims in Ngoshe, Kukawa, and Konduga would also benefit from similar support packages tailored to their needs, including food supplies and construction materials.
He added that the intervention reflects the Commission’s continued commitment to supporting communities affected by insurgency and aiding their recovery.
The Nation reports that the recent attacks in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno have once again underscored the lingering threat of Boko Haram insurgents in the North East, even as security forces continued efforts to contain the situation.
Officials say the NEDC intervention is part of broader efforts to provide immediate relief and restore hope to affected families, particularly those in Maiduguri who bore the brunt of the latest wave of violence.
The representative of BOSEMA pledged that the items provided will reached the victims directly in a transparent manner.
