Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been invested as patron of the Renewed Hope Unity Cup Football Competition, in a ceremony held at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The investiture was performed by Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, chairman of the Plateau State Football Association and national coordinator of Cornerflag Connection Ltd, the company spearheading the initiative. Yahaya-Kwande is a former NFF Executive Committee member and two-term member of the House of Representatives.

The Renewed Hope Unity Cup is designed to involve all 774 local government areas across Nigeria, with the stated aim of uniting young Nigerians through football while providing a platform for youth empowerment and talent development.

Yahaya-Kwande, who is leading the project, described the initiative under the tagline "A Goal Nigeria" — which stands for "Asiwaju Go On And Lead Nigeria."

Gusau described the competition as a "noble initiative" in line with the NFF's grassroots development mission, pledging that the federation would play an active role in identifying exceptional talents capable of breaking into the various national teams through the competition.

"This is a welcome idea, and I am excited to be a patron of the initiative. As the football-governing body in the country, the NFF will play an active role and watch keenly for those exceptional talents that can break into the various national teams through the competition."

The 2026 edition of the competition is expected to serve as a qualifying pathway for young players seeking exposure to the national team setup.
