Former Sporting Lagos coach Shola Adegun is the leading candidate to become the new head coach of Nigeria’s U17 team, the Golden Eaglets.
Sources indicate that Adegun is in pole position to replace long-serving coach Manu Garba, following the team’s failure to qualify for this year’s U17 AFCON.

A UEFA C-licensed coach, Adegun has built a strong reputation working across several top academies, including Sporting Lagos, Clique Academy, Barcelona Academy, and AS Roma Academy.
One of his standout achievements was leading Sporting Lagos to victory at the 2024 Gothia Cup in Sweden.
However, his recent stint with NPFL side Plateau United was short-lived after he was demoted as an Assistant to new coach, Gbenga Ogunbote with the club battling relegation then.
Despite this setback, his developmental pedigree appears to have placed him firmly in contention for the national youth role.
