As the second edition of the Niger Delta Games hits its stride on Day 3, the Scouting Committee has reaffirmed its mission: to unearth the region's next wave of world-class talent.

Led by Chairman Godwin Enakhena, the committee has been a constant fixture at various venues, working from dawn till dusk. Their goal is simple but ambitious—identifying the "Generation Next" of Nigerian sports.

"We’re ready to help discover the next Blessing Oborodudu, Victor Ikpeba, Victor Osimhen, Nwankwo Kanu, Efe Ajagba, Enefiok Udo-Obong, Blessing Okagbare or  Ese Brume  for the Niger Delta region,” " Enakhena asserted Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

"We’re ready to help discover the next Blessing Oborodudu, Victor Ikpeba, Victor Osimhen, Nwankwo Kanu, Efe Ajagba, Enefiok Udo-Obong, Blessing Okagbare, Ese Brume etc for the Niger Delta region", he asserted Sunday afternoon when he joined a group of former athletics stars

At  Sunday’s  track and field events with Enakhena  on Sunday  at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium  were some of Nigeria’s athletics greats including  Mary Onyali, Henry Amike, Gabriel Okon, Gabriel Opuama and Enefiok Udo-Obong among others.

"We are happy with the job done by the screening committee to ensure that true U-20s are the ones participating in Benin City,” Enakhena further said. "We’re going to be meticulous in beaming the searchlight on very talented younger athletes that are being showcased at the Games.”

Enakhena recalled that at the last edition in Uyo,  Akwa Ibom State, 644 athletes were identified as having the potentials to thrive in the future.

"The talent in the Niger Delta is immense, and we are meticulously beaming our searchlight on these young athletes."

At Edo 2026,  Enakhena said scouting team  for athletics includes legends like Mary Onyali, Henry Amike  and Enefiok Udo-Obong. Wrestling is led by Blessing Oborodudu, Tennis by Rolake Olagbegi-Kassim and Football by NPFL veteran Victor Ezeji.

Enakhena praised the screening committee for ensuring a true U-20 competition, preserving the integrity of the grassroots mission.

The Niger Delta  Games  is  being organised by Dunamis-Icon Limited led by Sir Itiako Ikpokpo and sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
