Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, has applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission and Dunamis Icon for establishing the Niger Delta Games as a platform for discovering and nurturing talents in the region.

The Sapele-born legend described the Games as a powerful initiative capable of redirecting youths from social vices by offering them meaningful opportunities through sports. According to him, the competition has become a beacon of hope for young people determined to improve their lives and support their families.

Ikpeba, fondly known as the “Prince of Monaco” for his exploits in France, urged organisers to sustain the initiative, noting that sports remain a strong tool for peace building and national development.

He encouraged other regions to emulate the model to enhance Nigeria’s overall sports growth.

Now a TV Pundit, Ikpeba advised participating athletes to seize the opportunity with determination, emphasizing that sports gave him global recognition because he maximized his chance.

He pledged continued support for the Games and other initiatives aimed at advancing Nigerian sports.
