The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Angela Ajala, has stressed the need to prioritise quality teacher preparation, insisting that Nigeria deserves the best educators.

Ajala made this known in Abuja during her inauguration as the Executive Secretary of the Commission.

While outlining staff welfare and institutional development as key priorities, she emphasised the importance of collaboration and a shared vision in advancing teacher education across the country.

According to her, the future of teacher education in Nigeria must be a shared mission, noting that meaningful progress in the sector can only be achieved through collective effort.

“Our work sits at the heart of national development.

She described teachers as “the quiet architect of the nation’s future,” adding that “Nigeria deserves the best teachers and our teachers deserve the best preparation.”

Ajala expressed appreciation for her appointment, pledging to serve with humility and dedication.

“I receive this responsibility today with deep humility and a profound sense of duty,” she stated, while thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, for the confidence reposed in her.

She also acknowledged stakeholders whose contributions have shaped the Commission over time.

The new Executive Secretary assured staff of her commitment to improving their welfare and fostering a conducive working environment to boost productivity and service delivery. She called for unity and support from staff and stakeholders to achieve her mandate.

“I ask for your partnership, your counsel, your prayers,” she appealed.

In his remarks, the outgoing Executive Secretary, Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, formally handed over to Ajala, presenting relevant documents to ensure a seamless transition.

He urged her to consolidate on existing achievements and expressed confidence in her leadership.

Also speaking, the Director of Colleges at the Federal Ministry of Education, Uchenna Uba, congratulated Ajala on her historic appointment as the first female Executive Secretary of the NCCE.

She commended the Federal Government for the decision, expressing optimism that the new leadership would strengthen institutional performance and promote inclusiveness.

The ceremony featured a formal handover, a facility tour led by the outgoing Executive Secretary, and a symbolic photo session to mark the occasion. It attracted staff, stakeholders, and well-wishers from across the education sector, signalling broad support for a new leadership era at the Commission.
