Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that Nigeria is in capable hands under Tinubu's administration.

Fubara spoke on Thursday, when he declared the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council open in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Traditional rulers from the 17 southern states of East, West, and Southsouth assembled in Port Harcourt to deliberate on issues of unity, security, and economic development of the region.

Fubara told the audience that Tinubu's administration was making significant progress in reviving the economy and delivering critical infrastructure, especially the coastal road projects, despite the prevailing challenges.

The governor insisted that continuity in leadership was essential, saying: “It is not ideal to change the goalposts in the middle of the game.”

Fubara urged various stakeholders across the region to work in unity toward collective aspirations, noting that the South must remain united to achieve sustainable development.

The governor added that the gathering of traditional rulers underscored Rivers' peaceful disposition and the state's readiness to host high-profile national engagements.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the council and Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, said the meeting was convened to foster peace and strengthen unity across the region.

The monarch noted that the council reflected Nigeria’s diversity, with over 400 dialects spoken across the southern states, calling the gathering a demonstration of unity in diversity.

He explained that the Port Harcourt meeting was the fourth in the series, recalling that earlier gatherings had been held in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states.

He said the assembly provided an opportunity for traditional rulers to discuss shared values and common interests affecting the people.

The monarch said the council would also deliberate on ways to support the current administration in addressing security and economic challenges.

He emphasised that participation in the meeting was voluntary but crucial for repositioning the region and the country at large.

The meeting was attended by notable traditional rulers, including the co-Chairman of the council, the Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Illomuanya, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
