... Says economy recovering, security reforms and state police under review
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday declared that Nigeria has emerged as a high-value destination for global investment, citing renewed confidence in the economy and significant inflows into the hydrocarbons sector.
The President spoke at the State House, Abuja, while receiving a delegation of the Civil Society Organisation on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), in a meeting attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, the President said recent milestones in the energy sector, particularly the completion of a critical phase of the OB3 Gas Pipeline project, underscore growing investor confidence and Nigeria’s improving economic outlook.
“I have just received the good news that our gas investment has crossed the most difficult river and is moving very effectively,” the President said, referring to the successful River Niger crossing of the pipeline.
The OB3 Gas Pipeline, constructed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology beneath the riverbed, is expected to unlock a transport capacity of about 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, boosting energy security, power generation, and industrial expansion.
The President noted that despite prevailing challenges, the economy has rebounded from severe fiscal strain.
“We have survived the edge of bankruptcy; we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Tinubu also highlighted major infrastructure projects under his administration, including the ambitious Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, which he said holds vast economic potential.
“Along that corridor, there are over 75 dams that can be used for irrigation, technology, and power generation that will serve the majority of Nigerians and improve the quality of life,” he added.
On national security, the President assured that ongoing efforts to stabilise the country were yielding results, while noting that discussions around state policing are being carefully considered.
“It’s not a situation that you can rectify with a snap of the finger. We shall overcome,” he said.
Earlier, the Director-General of CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff, described the organisation as a United Nations-accredited platform coordinating community-based organisations, non-governmental organisations, and faith-based groups to promote socio-economic development and humanitarian initiatives.
Yusuff commended the administration’s reform agenda, particularly in the area of fiscal policy, saying revenue outcomes had recorded significant growth.

“Mr President, to describe you as the architect of Nigeria’s new financial infrastructure is neither hyperbolic nor gainsaying. The revenue outcomes have witnessed an exponential growth exceeding 300 per cent,” he said.
He also lauded government initiatives in infrastructure development, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and social investment programmes, while urging expansion of beneficiary coverage.
The CSCHEI boss further noted that Nigeria is making steady progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 targets, attributing this to strategic appointments and policy direction.
On local government autonomy, Yusuff said the administration’s stance reflects a strong political will to dismantle structural barriers to grassroots governance.
He pledged the organisation’s support in mobilising citizens to better understand and appreciate government programmes.
President Tinubu, in his response, commended the group for fostering intellectual engagement and accountability in governance.
“Thank you for instigating high-level intellectuality and inquisitiveness in governance,” he said, reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and national development.
