Ebienfa said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will lead the Nigerian delegation, while the European Union delegation is expected to be led by Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

The European delegation is scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Sunday, 22 March 2026.

Ebienfa also said the meeting aimed at reviewing Nigeria–EU relations and advancing cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.

“The visiting High Representative is also expected to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of high-level engagements to further strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the European Union,” he added

A joint press briefing is expected to be held after the Ministerial meeting, where the outcomes of the dialogue and areas of enhanced cooperation will be communicated to the public.

The Eighth Nigeria–EU Ministerial Dialogue provides an important platform for both parties to deepen engagement in areas including trade and investment, security cooperation, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development. The dialogue underscores the strong and evolving partnership between Nigeria and the European Union, anchored on shared values of multilateralism, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation.

Ebienfa explained, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the European Union and looks forward to a productive and forward-looking engagement.”
