The loss comes not long after Madugu guided Nigeria to their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. In a memorable final against Morocco women's national football team, the Super Falcons came from two goals down to win 3–2.

Family members described the late Madam Mary as a strong and caring figure who lived a life of humility and faith.

Funeral activities will begin with a wake on April 13, followed by burial on April 14 at the LCCN Church in Numan, Adamawa State.
