The Nigeria Football Referees’ Association (NFRA) has inaugurated a special committee to investigate the absence of Nigerian referees in major international competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

The initiative is part of the reform agenda of Acting President Kelechi Mejuobi under the “Rediscover NFRA Agenda.”

The committee, chaired by retired FIFA referee Emmanuel Imiere, has been tasked with examining why Nigeria has not produced a centre referee for AFCON or the World Cup since 2006.

Its mandate also includes assessing current referee performance levels and recommending strategies to restore Nigeria’s place in the elite category.

Mejuobi expressed confidence in the panel, stating that their findings would help address a “critical concern for Nigerian football.”

The committee is expected to submit its report within four weeks, with outcomes likely to shape future refereeing policies.
