NSCDC arrests 16 suspects for kidnapping, illegal mining, theft

The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested 16 criminal suspects for kidnapping, illegal mining, theft and illegal possession of firearms and fake currency amounting to $600,000.
The suspects were arrested in Kano, Edo, Gombe and Yobe states during operations carried out by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG-SIS).
The Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said quoted the Commander of the CG-SIS, Commandant Appolos Dandaura, as saying that some of the suspects were arrested in Kano while others were arrested around of BUA Cement Company, Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
“One Abbas Lawan Garkuwa is involved in printing counterfeit US dollars and was arrested with fake $600,000, an equivalent of almost N1 billion, and also for obtaining money by false pretence after issuing fake United States dollars amounting to $6,200 to a victim at an exchange rate of N1,452, having earlier obtained N9 million from the victim,” Afolabi said.

He also said one of the suspects upon investigation further revealed his involvement in counterfeit currency business with one Usman Muazu of Tanturus in Gombe State, who is still at large.
Afolabi said various dangerous weapons, including guns, ammunition, and knives were recovered from the suspects.
He gave the suspects names as Nurudeen Lawali, Jamilu Danyaro, Yasir Sanusi, Sarfilu Haruna, Yusuf Aminu, Nasiru Ibrahim, Shafiu Jafar, Suleiman Muhammadu, Auwulu Ladan, Rabiu Nura, Nasiru Mohammed Kabir, and Shamsu Yusuf. Others are Kaumi Alhaji Kadau, Suleiman Malam Uba, and Isiyaka Suleiman.
“Their arrest followed sustained intelligence and operational onslaught in response to rising security concerns and kidnapping activities around the Okpella and Etsako axis of Edo State and its environs,” Afolabi said.
He said the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, commended the squad for their gallantry and professionalism.
