Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested 10 suspects in connection with thefts, kidnapping, vandalism and conspiracy.
One vandal was, however, killed during a gun battle with a group of vandals within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the operation.
The arrest was carried out by the Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) and the Crack Squad of the NSCDC following directives by the Commandant General of the Corps, Prof Ahmed Audi that the Corps should renew its onslaught against criminals in Abuja and adjoining states.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps in Abuja, Babawale Afolabi, noted that the arrested suspects targetted government critical infrastructure and national assets for vandalism, and thefts and also engaged in kidnapping within the city and its environs.
Afolabi said six suspects linked to criminal conspiracy, vandalism of electrical power and communications installations, theft, and other related offenses were apprehended within the city.
Afolabi gave their names as Suleiman Ibrahim, 31 years old, Libras Umar, aged 25, Umar Rabiu, 18 years old, Muktar Yusuf, aged 22, Ibrahim Haruna, 18 years old, and Sunday Ezekiel, aged 27. He said they were arrested at various places within the city while vandalising and stealing telecom equipment and other infrastructures.

He also said four other suspects were arrested for kidnapping, cattle rustling, theft, among others. He gave their names as Ali Musa for cattle rustling and kidnapping, Musa Juli for kidnapping, Umar Abdullahi, for kidnapping and theft and Murtala Ibrahim, also for involvement in kidnapping activities.

Afolabi qouted the Commandant Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant Appolos Dandaura, as saying that the arrests were made possible through credible intelligence provided by the public and swift operational collaboration among the relevant security agencies.
He confirmed that some of the suspects were apprehended inside manhole channels around Begar roundabout in Abuja, while others were intercepted armed with dangerous weapons.
He further stated that during one of the confrontations, a suspect was neutralized after he and his cohorts engaged the operatives in a gun battle.
