The Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has pledged full support to the Lagos State Government in establishing the necessary framework for implementing the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) across the state.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of NSITF, Oluwaseun Falaye, made this known on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Head of Service of Lagos State, Mr. Bode Agoro, at his office.
Falaye explained that the visit aimed to “establish a clear and structured pathway for the implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme in Lagos State.”
The NSITF boss outlined the steps needed to maintain momentum, including the identification of a lead coordinating Ministry or Office, nomination of a technical focal person, and the convening of a joint technical session within two weeks.
He said, “We would like to assure you of our full readiness to support Lagos State through technical onboarding and advisory support, sensitisation across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), local government areas (LGAs), and public institutions, claims processing and compensation administration, and occupational safety and health interventions.
“We recognise the scale and sophistication of Lagos State: a large and diverse workforce, multiple MDAs and LGAs, and strong administrative and payroll systems.”
He also highlighted the alignment of the ECS with the state’s THEMES+ Agenda, stating that it supports governance, economic sustainability, and health and environment priorities.

“The Employees’ Compensation Scheme provides structured protection for employees in cases of workplace injury, disease, disability, or death. It also strengthens compliance, accountability, and occupational safety across workplaces,” he added.
Falaye proposed the establishment of a coordinating authority and a technical desk to interface directly with NSITF on data collation, employer compliance, operational coordination, and joint technical planning.
He also suggested integrating compliance into state processes such as contract bidding and public procurement.
In response, Lagos State Head of Service, Agoro, welcomed the initiative, announcing the full implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme in the state.
He revealed that a dedicated unit would be established to manage the scheme effectively.
