The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted formal approval to Newgate University Minna to commence 14 postgraduate programmes following a successful resource verification exercise.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Sadiq Yusuf, announced the commission’s approval during a press briefing at the university’s Senate Chamber, describing it as a significant milestone that clears the institution to admit its first set of postgraduate students from May 2026.

He said the NUC clearance covers Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, Professional Master’s programmes and Doctoral degrees across key disciplines, including management, accounting, finance, computer science, public health, international relations and development studies.

Yusuf noted that the approval demonstrates the university’s readiness to meet national academic standards and positions Newgate University Minna to contribute to research advancement and the development of high-level manpower.

“The programmes will strengthen research capacity, train high-level professionals and scholars, and contribute to national development through knowledge creation and innovation,” he stated.

Newgate University is currently running 16 undergraduate programmes adding that the institution now has 14 postgraduate programmes and 2 undergraduate programmes approved by the NUC with a student population that has grown from 300 to 2,018 in four years.

The Vice Chancellor assured that the Postgraduate School has been structured to deliver research excellence, professional relevance and innovation-driven leadership, while urging interested candidates to visit the university website or contact the admissions office for application details.

He added that the NUC nod comes as demand for quality postgraduate training continues to rise across Nigeria, enabling Newgate University Minna to expand its role in producing the specialised skills and research needed for national development.
