The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given Newgate University Minna the go-ahead to start 14 postgraduate (PG) programmes following a verification.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Sadiq Yusuf, announced this at a press conference at the university’s Senate chamber, describing it as a milestone that clears the way for the institution to admit its first cohort of postgraduate students from May, this year.

Yusuf said the approval reflects the university’s readiness to meet national standards and positions Newgate to contribute to research excellence and high-level manpower development.

“The programmes will strengthen research capacity, train high-level professionals and scholars, and contribute to national development through knowledge creation and innovation,” he stated.

Newgate University is running 16 undergraduate programmes, adding that the institution has14 postgraduate programmes and two undergraduate programmes approved by the NUC with a student population that has grown from 300 to 2,018 in four years.

The VC assured that the Postgraduate School has been structured to deliver research excellence, professional relevance and innovation-driven leadership, urging interested candidates to visit the university website or contact the admissions office for application.

He added that the NUC nod comes as demand for quality postgraduate training continues to rise across Nigeria, enabling Newgate University to expand its role in producing the specialised skills and research needed for national development.
