Matchday 16 of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership delivered drama, late goals and shifting momentum across both groups as title contenders tightened their grip and relegation battles intensified.

The highly anticipated South-South derby in Port Harcourt in Group A, lived up to its billing even without goals. Bayelsa Queens showed grit and composure to hold Rivers Angels to a 0-0 draw, preserving top spot on 31 points. Rivers Angels and Edo Queens are level on points but trail on goal difference, with all three sides already through to the Super Six play-offs.

Edo Queens stayed firmly in the title race with a 2-0 win over Naija Ratels in Benin City. Esther Inyang opened the scoring in the 38th minute before league top scorer Atume Doosuur netted her 11th goal of the season in the 88th minute to seal the points.

In Ado Ekiti, Ekiti Queens completed a season double over Pacesetters Queens with a 2-0 victory. Joke Adeyemi broke the deadlock in the 51st  minute, while Winifred Eyebhoria converted a late penalty in the 87th  minute to secure all three points. Ekiti Queens move up to sixth with 16 points; Pacesetters remain eighth on six.

Elsewhere, the clash between Ibom Angels and Heartland Queens was halted in the 55th  minute due to heavy rain with the score 0-0. The match was scheduled to resume on Wednesday morning in Uyo.

Meanwhile in Group B, FC Robo Queens underlined their dominance with a late 2-0 win over Abia Angels in Lagos, completing a double over their visitors. Goals from Rodiat Yusuf in the 86th minute and Opeyemi Ajakaye in stoppage time secured maximum points and extended Robo's lead at the top to 32 points. Abia Angels drop to fourth with 24 points.

Remo Stars Ladies climbed back to third despite a 1-1 draw against Sunshine Queens in Ikenne. Victory Lucky gave the visitors the lead in the 30th  minute before Kadijat Anifowoshe equalised early in the second half. Remo now sit on 24 points, while Sunshine Queens — unbeaten in two games under new management — are eighth with 16 points but remain in the relegation zone.

In Iyamho, Dannaz Ladies boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 1-0 away win over Confluence Queens, courtesy of Fatimoh Solaty's 58th -minute strike. Dannaz climb to sixth with 19 points, three clear of the drop zone, while Confluence Queens remain bottom on 14.

At Ile Ogbo, Osun Babes secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season, edging Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 through Sharon Shomuyiwa's 32nd-minute goal. Despite the defeat, Nasarawa Amazons hold second place with 26 points; Osun Babes climb to ninth on 15.

In Asaba, Delta Queens claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Ahudiyannem FC. Olaitan Oladiti gave the hosts the lead in the 24th minute, but Mary Lucky equalised for the visitors in the 35th minute before Chika Idika struck late in the 87th minute to hand Delta all three points. Delta Queens climb to fifth with 19 points; Ahudiyannem drop to seventh on 16.
