The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership resumes with Matchday 8 fixtures across the country as the race for Super Six qualification gathers real momentum. With the league split into two groups and only the top three from each group advancing to the championship playoffs, every point now carries added weight writes TUNDE LIADI.

League leaders Bayelsa Queens travel to the Dan Anyiam Stadium with a perfect record intact — six wins from six matches before the break. The Prosperity Girls have combined defensive discipline with attacking ruthlessness, including a strong start that featured an opening-day win over Edo Queens in Yenagoa.

For Heartland Queens, this is more than a prestige fixture. The Owerri side sit fourth on eight points and are already seven points adrift of the Super Six positions. Their 5–0 loss to Rivers Angels before the recess exposed defensive frailties that must be addressed quickly.

Bayelsa Queens’ consistency underlines their championship pedigree — they are former league winners and have maintained continental ambitions in recent seasons. A seventh straight victory would tighten their grip on the summit, while Heartland desperately need home solidity to avoid drifting into relegation calculations.

Second-placed Rivers Angels head to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta to face Ekiti Queens in what is technically a neutral venue fixture following disciplinary measures affecting Ekiti’s home ground.

Rivers Angels (15 points) have rediscovered rhythm, capped by their emphatic 5–0 win over Heartland Queens before the recess. The Port Harcourt side, multiple-time NWFL champions, remain one of the most decorated clubs in Nigerian women’s football.

Ekiti Queens, with two wins and a draw from six matches (seven points), are battling for survival rather than silverware. They are fifth in Group A and cannot afford a prolonged winless stretch.

Group B leaders FC Robo Queens return to Lagos aiming to bounce back from their narrow 1–0 defeat to Remo Stars Ladies in Ikenne — a result that ended their six-game winning run.

Robo Queens, widely respected for youth development and talent production in Nigerian football, have shown consistency this season. Another home win would steady their Super Six charge.

Visitors Osun Babes are sixth with eight points and cannot afford complacency. Off-field administrative distractions have surrounded the club in recent weeks, but on the pitch, survival remains the focus.

At the Enyimba International Stadium, two fixtures underline contrasting ambitions.

Ahudiyannem Queens have struggled badly, picking up just two points from seven games. They face Confluence Queens, who have shown improvement after a slow start and sit just above the relegation zone with five points.

In the second fixture, Abia Angels (11 points) confront Dannaz Ladies. Abia Angels boosted their credentials with an away win in Asaba prior to the break and are just one point behind third-placed Remo Stars Ladies in Group B.

Remo Stars Ladies sit third and know victory keeps them inside the Super Six bracket. Delta Queens will look to disrupt that ambition.

Naija Ratels are still chasing their first win of the season. Adamawa Queens began brightly with seven points from their opening three matches but have since endured a four-game slump.

Edo Queens are unbeaten in five games since their opening-day defeat to Bayelsa Queens. Third in Group A with 15 points, they travel to face Ibom Angels, who are sixth with seven points and seeking a momentum shift.

Unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons (15 points) travel to Akure to face Sunshine Queens at the Ondo Sports Complex. The Amazons’ resilience has been a hallmark of their campaign, while Sunshine Queens need points to steer clear of danger.
