Former Secretary of the Forum of State Chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye has thrown his cap in the ring at the forthcoming National Convention of the party, vying for the office of the Deputy National Chairman (South).
He wants to replace the incumbent, Hon. Emma Enekwu at the party’s National Convention slated for 26 and 27 March, 2026 in Abuja.
Nwoye declared his intention Tuesday night in Abuja after unveiling his campaign team with members spread across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The former Enugu party chairman told newsmen that the intention to be on the next National Working Committee (NWC) was informed by his desire to breath a fresh air into the running and policy conception by the party’s highest administrative organ.
He also said he planned to rally the support of the 17 states in the South for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and also ensure victory for Governor Peter Mbah in Enugu and other party candidates in the southern region in the 2027 general elections
Nwoye, who claimed to have the support of Gov. Mbah of Enugu State and other stakeholders in the Southeast and across the country, promised to bring his wealth of experience to reposition the party for the tasks ahead as the ruling party.
According to him: “By God’s Grace I will emerge as APC Deputy National Chairman (South) in the forthcoming National Convention. It is not about the office. It’s about getting our President re-elected. For me, if I emerge, I will rally the entire south behind the President, and I will take the party back to the grassroots because the door of my office will be opened to all.”
“My whole goal and objective from day one is to ensure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinigu come 2027 and the re-election of my governor, His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, that’s my ambition and to drive home that ambition that’s why I’m up on the national stage and I’m telling you that we can do better and we can make it happen."
Asked whether he has the support of stakeholders from Enugu state, Nwoye said: “Of course, I won’t be here if I don’t have the support of our party leaders. Before now, I have served His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, the smart and best performing governor in the entire country.
Director General of Dr. Ben Nwoye Campaign Organisation, Hon. Timothy Amah said the vision of deputy National Chairmanship aspirant is to serve as a bridge that unites the South — from the Southeast to the South-South, Southwest, and beyond — behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The campaign director said, Nwoye has "pledged to mobilise Southern Nigeria like never before, to strengthen the party’s structures at every level, to ensure inclusivity, fairness, and justice, and to deliver unbeatable electoral victories for APC in future contests starting with the consolidation of President Tinubu’s second term mandate and cascading down to every state and local government."
Assuring party members of the potentials of Nwoye, the campaign chief said, “To our party leaders, delegates, and members nationwide: Dr. Ben Nwoye is not coming to take. He is coming to serve. He brings experience, exposure, and a track record of stability and reconciliation. He understands the heartbeat of the South and the aspirations of our people.
"He is committed to working closely with the National Chairman, the National Working Committee, and every progressive leader to make APC stronger, more united, and more unbeatable.
“To the good people of Southern Nigeria, this is your moment. This is our moment to rise, to rally, and to reclaim our rightful place at the table of national decision-making. Together, we will mobilize the South for President Tinubu, for progressive ideals, and for a Nigeria where no region is left behind.
“Let me end with this assurance: under Dr. Ben Nwoye’s leadership as Deputy National Chairman (South), the APC will be more inclusive, more responsive, and more victorious. The South will be energized, the party will be strengthened, and Nigeria will be better served.”
A former Zonal Women Leader (North West) and member of the Nwoye Campaign Team, Barr. Aisha Keita from Borno State said the teeming support currently being enjoyed by Nwoye was as a result of his pedigree as a grassroots mobiliser and effient human manager.
The woman leader expressed confidence in the leadership qualities of the aspirant, assuring that "APC will be better with the likes of Dr. Ben Nwoye on the National Working Committee of our great party."
