Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom has denied claims that Supreme Court has delivered a judgment determining the boundary between Ogwashi-Uku and Ibusa, insisting that no such ruling exists and that the matter is before a competent court.

In a statement signed by Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, Palace Secretary to the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, the kingdom described as “misleading and legally irresponsible” recent claims by some members of the Ibusa community alleging that a Supreme Court judgment had settled the boundary dispute.

According to the statement, the dispute is being litigated at Delta State High Court, Asaba Judicial Division.

The case, Suit No: AKU/11/2024, is before Hon. Justice Obi in Court 4 in Asaba.

The kingdom noted that both parties are actively participating in the proceedings and awaiting the court’s determination.

“If a Supreme Court judgment truly existed and conclusively settled the boundary, there would be no need for the current suit pending before the High Court,” the statement said.

The kingdom further argued that public protests and media statements on issues already before the court undermined the judicial process.

It stressed that boundary disputes are matters for judicial determination, not public agitation, and reaffirmed its commitment to allowing the courts to decide the matter.

Ogwashi-Uku kingdom maintained that historically and administratively, the boundary between the two communities remains River Oboshi.

It added that the river is also the recognised boundary between Aniocha South Local Government and Oshimili North Local Government, insisting that no amount of protest can alter geography.

The statement also alleged that certain documents, including what it described as questionable survey plans, had surfaced in an attempt to lay claim to land that were never litigated or awarded to Ibusa, warning that such actions could escalate tension.

On the controversy surrounding the location of Admiralty University, the kingdom disclosed that the issue is before the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing as premature any public declaration on the university’s location while the matter is awaiting judicial determination.

The kingdom lauded Delta State Government for calling for calm and urged authorities to ensure law and order along River Oboshi boundary.

Reiterating its position, Ogwashi-Uku leadership says there is no Supreme Court judgment determining the present boundary dispute and emphasises that the matter remains before the High Court.

“We will not litigate in the media. We will litigate in court,” the statement noted.
