Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved full educational scholarships for children of the late Brig.-Gen. Oseni Braimah, who was recently killed by Boko Haram insurgents.

The deceased was the commander, 29 Task Force Brigade, which was attacked at a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

He hailed from Warrake, Owan East Local Government, a border town with Auchi in Estako West Local Government.

The scholarship will fund the children’s education from their current level to university.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, Patrick Ebojele, in a statement, said the decision underscored the administration’s commitment to honouring the sacrifice of fallen military personnel and supporting families they left behind.

The statement listed beneficiaries to include Farida Hussain-Braimah, a 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, currently in SS3 at Olumawu Senior School, Abuja; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, a JSS2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School, Abuja.

It said Governor Okpebholo described his action as both a moral obligation and a demonstration of responsible governance.

The statement said Brig.-Gen. Braimah’s death represented a profound sacrifice in the service of the country.

It quoted Okpebholo as saying: “Brig.-Gen. Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education.

“We will support the children throughout their academic journey, positioning them for stable and meaningful future.

“The scholarship initiative aligns with the education pillar of my administration’s SHINE Agenda, which places emphasis on human capital development, social welfare and inclusive governance.

“No child of an Edo hero should be denied the opportunity to succeed. This is about responsibility, honour and a deliberate investment in the future.”
