Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has attributed his confidence in tackling cultism in the state to spiritual support received from the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubeze.

The governor said prayers offered by the cleric strengthened his resolve and guided his actions in office.

Okpebholo made the remarks during a thanksgiving service marking Akubeze’s 20th Episcopal Anniversary.

Reflecting on his first meeting with the Archbishop, the governor described the encounter as a turning point that influenced both his political journey and commitment to addressing key challenges in Edo State.

He disclosed that he sought the Archbishop’s prayers at a critical stage when he resolved to confront issues such as cultism and improve governance in the state.

According to him, the prayers provided the strength and conviction needed to pursue those objectives.

Okpebholo noted that the anniversary was not only a celebration of years of service but also a recognition of the Archbishop’s impact and mentorship.

The event was attended by prominent personalities, including the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, and former Edo State Governor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
