From Osagie Otabor, Benin

The promoter of Edo Nigeria’s Construction Site, Mr. John Mayaki, has lauded Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for undertaking the funding of a 28.2-kilometre portion of the Benin–Sapele–Warri Road.

Mayaki, who visited the site to assess the work completed, dispelled claims that the Federal Ministry of Works was funding the project.

He stated that the ongoing reconstruction is solely financed by the administration of Okpebholo, unlike under the past administration of Godwin Obaseki, which, he alleged, failed to collaborate with the Federal Government to fix the road despite challenges his convoy encountered on the route.

He said, “I must commend the governor for coming to the rescue with his steady hands, especially the monitoring and inspection he has on several occasions undertaken to ensure that the contractor delivers within record time and meets quality standards,” Mayaki said.

He said that he assessed the entire stretch of the road, beginning from the flyover under construction on Sapele Road to Santana Market, extending through RCC and the Ogheghe bypass, and terminating at the Ologbo–Koko junction.

According to him, notable progress has been recorded, including the completion of 1.5 kilometres of surface drains, a one-kilometre underground channel, and a 1.6-kilometre underground canal designed to address perennial flooding along the Sapele Road axis.

Mayaki said, “I must commend the governor for his attention to detail on this project,” he added.

He noted that Edo State is fast becoming Nigeria’s largest construction hub, attributing this to the governor’s belief that improved road infrastructure would boost economic activity, increase state revenue, and drive GDP growth.

He also hailed Okpebholo’s leadership and collaboration with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in delivering critical infrastructure projects across the state.
