In the heart of Edo State, a silent but vigorous revolution is unfolding. For years, the cry of "bad roads" was a recurring theme in the state's socio-economic discourse.
However, under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, the narrative is shifting from lamentation to visible, motorized action.
At the core of this transformation is a sophisticated "Three-Pronged Approach" designed not just to patch holes, but to build a sustainable, interconnected Edo.
Grassroots empowerment: The 54-unit fleet
The first leg of the Okpebholo strategy is built on the philosophy that "when the local governments work, the state prospers." Recognizing that rural roads are the arteries of the agricultural economy, the Governor recently commissioned and handed over 54 units of brand-new construction equipment to the 18 Local Government Councils.
This fleet, comprising caterpillars, graders, excavators, and rollers, ensures that council chairmen no longer have an excuse for neglected feeder roads.
By decentralizing equipment ownership, the administration has empowered the grassroots to respond immediately to localized infrastructure needs without waiting for "orders from above" in Benin City.
The rapid response agency: light and heavy-duty agility
The second prong is the revitalization of the State Rapid Response Agency (RRA). While major projects are ongoing, the Governor understands that minor failures on critical arteries can paralyze commerce.
By equipping the RRA with both light-duty maintenance machines for quick urban fixes and heavy-duty machinery for emergency structural repairs, the state has created a "commando unit" for infrastructure.
This agency operates under the Governor’s SHINE Agenda (Security, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Nutrition/Agriculture, and Education), ensuring that the "I" for Infrastructure is backed by the mechanical muscle to deliver 24/7.

The giants on the field: Partnering with reputable firms
The third and final prong is the engagement of major reputable construction firms for legacy projects. Governor Okpebholo has moved away from "PowerPoint governance" to "Practical Governance." This is evident in the deployment of top-tier contractors to execute complex projects like the Ramat Park Flyover and the Adesuwa-Sapele Road Flyover.
By hiring firms with proven track records, the administration is ensuring that the 255 kilometers of roads currently under construction across the three senatorial districts are built to last.
The Governor's recent directive for contractors to work "round-the-clock" to beat the rainy season demonstrates a sense of urgency rarely seen in public service.
The shine vision agenda: A new Edo rises
Through this three-pronged strategy, Senator Monday Okpebholo is effectively cleaning up an inherited infrastructure deficit. By combining local government autonomy, a swift state-level response team, and the technical expertise of engineering giants, Edo State is no longer just a transit point; it is becoming a construction hub.
As the dust settles on these construction sites, the result is clear: it has reduced travel times, boosted trade, and restored trust in the social contract.
Under the SHINE Agenda, Edo is not just building roads; it is paving the way for a prosperous future.
