Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja; ex-Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Chinedum Babalola; Senior Advocate of Nigeria Abiodun Olatunji; and Director of Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation, Mrs. Joy Taiwo, have called for increased support for orphanages.

The stakeholders, who spoke in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the inauguration of the permanent site of Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation, said sustained support for orphanages would promote social equity and reduce criminality by providing vulnerable children with access to care, education and opportunities.

Oba Ladoja, who said protection of children remained a collective responsibility of the society, hailed the foundation for its noble initiative, noting that its commitment and sacrifices reflected exemplary leadership.

The foundation patron, Olatunji, urged Nigerians to cultivate a culture of giving back to the society, regardless of their contributions.

He said many orphanages struggled to meet basic needs, noting that investing in vulnerable children would contribute to crime reduction and long-term national development.

In her keynote address titled: ‘Beyond Charity: Building Sustainable Hope through Humanitarian Service’, Prof. Babalola sought an endowment fund for the orphanage, to enable it to continue impacting on the society.

Mrs Taiwo said the foundation was a child-focused, non-profit organisation dedicated to the care, protection and development of orphans and vulnerable children in the society.

She said the foundation had become a beacon of hope, restoring dignity and providing support to children, widows and vulnerable families.

She added that the work of the foundation was guided by compassion, accountability and the belief that children deserved love, care and opportunity to reach their full potential.
