A group, Omo Ibile Igbomina, has said that former Kwara State Governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed, complied with a Supreme Court judgment by presenting the staff of office and letter of appointment to the Oluganna of Ganmo, Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba AbdulYekeen Kolawole, in 2019.

The group, however, decried the failure of the current state government to present the letter of appointment and staff of office to Oba Kolawole.

The Igbomina group in Kwara South added that since the death of the monarch’s predecessor, Oba Abdullahi Atanda Kolawole, in September 2019, the state government had yet to formally complete the process by presenting the instruments of office to the third-class monarch.

Addressing reporters in Ilorin, the state capital, National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Sir Bisi Fakayode, said: “The immediate past Oluganna died on September 5, 2019, and it is a straightforward matter of succession to appoint and present a staff of office to the duly selected successor, Oba Abdulyekeen Olukayode Kolawole, who has been authorised since October 18, 2019.

“Former Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed, in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment and in deference to the rule of law, immediately approved the appointment of the late Oluganna and presented him with a staff of office on May 17, 2019.”

Fakayode called on the state government to act in line with justice by issuing the long-delayed letter of appointment and presenting the staff of office to the current Oluganna.

“Igbominas, with one voice, urge the government to deliver the Oluganna’s letter of appointment, which has been unduly delayed, and present the third-class staff of office. It was presented to his predecessor, and nothing should delay it further,” he said.

He stressed that Ganmo is part of Igbomina land and that developments concerning the stool concern the entire Igbomina people.

“We are not asking for what does not belong to us. In line with the rule of law, constitutionalism and legitimacy, we have made several efforts to secure the government’s action on the appointment and presentation of the staff of office to the duly appointed Oluganna,” Fakayode added.

He recalled that the letter of appointment and staff of office had been prepared for presentation alongside others, but were halted on the eve of the ceremony for reasons yet to be explained.
