Actor and politician Olumide Oworu has criticised what he described as society’s double standard in reacting to petty crimes while paying less attention to large-scale corruption.
Speaking during an interview on the The Clarity Zone Podcast, Oworu said public anger is often directed at minor offenders, whereas cases involving massive financial misconduct by influential figures frequently receive limited scrutiny.
He illustrated the disparity by pointing out how harshly individuals accused of stealing small items are treated compared with those linked to large-scale financial scandals.

According to him, society sometimes reacts with extreme outrage toward petty theft, yet remains relatively indifferent when allegations involve billions of naira in public funds.
Oworu said the trend reflects a deeper societal problem in which the broader consequences of corruption on ordinary citizens are often ignored.

The actor also questioned the practical value of education in the current economic climate, noting that many graduates struggle to secure employment despite years of academic training.
He argued that the situation has contributed to growing frustration among young people, who increasingly question the relationship between education and economic opportunity.
“But now, what did they really learn in school? And then they come out and graduate to which job?” he said.
He emphasised that societal progress should be measured by how it impacts the average person, saying, “The success of any government is the average person. If the average person cannot say, ‘we know say e hard but them dey try,’ then I’m sorry, it’s not good enough.”
