Aisha Ndanusa Ahmad has made history as the first female deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, specializing in Financial System Stability. Her remarkable professional journey began in marketing, but her transition into the finance sector marked a pivotal shift that would define her career. With a determination to excel, Ahmad undertook professional examinations that equipped her with the necessary expertise that set her apart from her peers, many of whom remained in marketing. This commitment to her development allowed her to rapidly ascend the ranks within the financial world, ultimately earning her the esteemed position of deputy governor.

During her nearly three-year tenure as deputy governor, Ahmad demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic insight, contributing significantly to the bank’s mission and the broader financial stability of the nation. After her departure from this influential role, she returned to her roots in Bida, Niger State, where she was honored with the title of Soniya Asusu Nupe, translating to “Custodian of Commonwealth.” This recognition not only reflects her commitment to her community but also highlights her cultural heritage.

While she has taken a step back from the public eye to forge a new path, Ahmad made headlines recently with her appointment as the Chair of the Graca Machel Trust Expert Leaders Group (ELG), succeeding Dr. Tukiya Kankasa-Mabula. Under Dr. Kankasa-Mabula’s leadership, the ELG established a robust framework for advancing women’s leadership within Africa’s financial sector. Ahmad’s new role puts her at the helm of a pan-African network that connects female central bank governors, regulators, and senior industry executives, all focused on driving systemic reform and promoting women’s economic empowerment across the continent.

Sources indicate that Ahmad is in the process of recalibrating her career, seeking out new local and international opportunities that align with her expertise. With decades of experience in financial governance, innovation, and inclusion, she is poised to showcase her abilities as a seasoned regulator and investment professional. As she aims to navigate the complexities of the evolving financial landscape, her vision and talent could lead to groundbreaking advancements in both national and global finance.
