The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Kayode Ajulo, SAN, has urged youths to position themselves for the complex challenges of the future, urging them to embrace innovation and actively participate in governance.
Ajulo made the call on Friday during the Southwest Youth Summit 4.0 held at the International Events Centre (The Dome), Akure, Ondo State.
Speaking on the theme, “Driving Lasting Impact: Anticipating & Preparing Youth for Tomorrow's Challenges,” he described the youth as central actors in shaping societal progress rather than passive observers.
Addressing participants, the legal luminary stressed that rapid technological advancements, climate change, economic shifts and governance deficits would define the coming decades, requiring deliberate preparation and strategic thinking among young people.

He warned that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital systems would reshape industries and professions, noting that those who fail to adapt risk becoming irrelevant in a fast-evolving global landscape.
Ajulo also highlighted environmental challenges, noting the threats posed by climate change to agricultural productivity and coastal ecosystems across the Southwest, while calling for innovative, interdisciplinary solutions from youth.
On the economic front, he described youth unemployment as a “latent volatility” that could destabilise society if not urgently addressed, and he advocated a transition to a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and entrepreneurship.
The commissioner further emphasised the need for reforms in governance and justice systems, noting that transparency, accountability and youth inclusion are critical to sustaining democracy.
To tackle these challenges, Ajulo outlined key pillars for youth development, including a reimagined education system focused on STEM, entrepreneurship and ethical leadership; youth-centred governance frameworks; and the creation of innovation-driven economic ecosystems.
He disclosed that Ondo State has initiated programmes such as innovation hubs, tech incubators and youth-focused justice reforms to support young people, urging other Southwest states to adopt similar measures.
Ajulo commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing youth-focused initiatives, including digital skills programmes and student loan schemes aimed at expanding opportunities for young Nigerians.
