A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Pius Akinyelure, has said he has no preferred aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries for National Assembly and House of Assembly in Ondo State.
He said the clarification was necessary, contrary to a report claiming that he granted an interview on the party’s internal political arrangement.
He described the publication as false and misleading.
The APC chieftain, who spoke through one of his associates, Femi Dada, said he did not authorise or participate in any such interview, urging party members and the public to disregard the report.
He maintained that he had no preferred candidates, stressing that his position had always been to support unity within the party, rather than promote personal interests.
Akinyelure, however, warned against the use of his name for political advantage, saying such actions could create unnecessary tension in the party.
He says the party’s established tradition remains adoption of consensus candidates where stakeholders agree, while primaries are conducted in line with party rules where consensus fails.
