The Ondo State Government has pledged N10 million in prize money for the 2026 Ondo Auto Rally, scheduled to hold on April 4 across Akure and Ilara-Mokin in Ondo State.

The announcement was made by Mr. Femi Akarakiri, Director of Business Development and Investment Management at the Ondo State Investment and Development Agency (ONDIPA).

In addition to the cash prize, the government has also approved the use of a section of the state capital for a drag race, where locally designed and built performance vehicles will compete.

Adeoye Ojuoko, President of organising body Work n Play, said the event — now in its 9th  edition — continues to build on Nigeria's growing automotive engineering capacity.

"This year's edition focuses on promoting tourism and culture through local content, including locally built racing cars and sporting infrastructure development," he said.

Themed Greatest Show on Wheels, the rally will feature a drag race of locally built performance cars, an MTB XCE cycling competition, a tree-planting exercise and an air show of locally built drones.

The Ondo Auto Rally has grown into one of Nigeria's most attended motorsport events, drawing significant tourist traffic to the state annually.
