The Nation gathered that the driver of the tanker, while plying the flyover, experienced brake failure during its descent, ramming into tricycles and cars on its way. He ran off after the accident.
At the scene around 4 p.m, two fire trucks were seen stationed by Refinery and Agric Junctions, while security operatives tried to condone the area from vehicular and pedestrian movements.
One of the fire trucks sprayed water on the tanker to prevent a fire outbreak.
A witness said one of the survivors, who came out with no scratch, claimed he had cautioned the rider of a tricycle he boarded against overtaking the tanker, after observing the possible brake failure.

“One person is dead there, no way to bring the person out. The moment I came out from the tyre shop at the junction and saw the incident and the fuel dropping from the tanker, I left there immediately,” the witness added.
The incident has forced several road users to seek alternative routes to their destinations, causing heavy traffic congestion along the Effurun-Sapele Road.
Business owners around the area had since shut their activities for the day.
Delta Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, was yet to confirm the number of victims recorded in the incident as of press time.
