A crash on the Gwacipe-Suleja Road yesterday in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State has claimed one person.

The victim was identified as the driver of a sachet water distribution vehicle involved in a collision with a private car conveying a family. Eyewitnesses said the impact left occupants of both vehicles with various injuries.

The injured were rushed to a clinic in Izom for treatment, where the distribution van driver was confirmed dead. Other victims are said to be responding to treatment.

In another accident on the same road, a Sienna bus and a trailer collided after the trailer reportedly lost control after its brakes failed. Although no life was lost, both vehicles were badly damaged.

The driver of the Sienna bus, Malam Suleiman, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road and improve its condition for road users calling for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles, especially trailers, to curb overloading and overspeeding.

Residents and commuters said the repeated accidents on the Gwacipe-Suleja Road have become a source of concern, urging government’s intervention to prevent further loss of lives and property.

They said the condition of the road and recklessness of some drivers had made the route dangerous.
