A 21-year-old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, has been remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly murdering his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and stealing his funds in Onitsha, Anambra State.
His accomplice, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, was also remanded in connection with the crime and the subsequent theft.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arraigned the suspects on March 18, 2026.
According to Ikenga, Anieke allegedly struck his employer on the head with a pestle, causing his death. He also linked him to an attack on Ogechukwu Nwite in Fegge, Onitsha.
He said the High Court in Onitsha arraigned Anieke alongside Nwokporo, who allegedly facilitated the crime by providing a bank account used to transfer over ₦8 million belonging to the deceased.
Ikenga said, "Police operatives recovered ₦6 million from the suspects as part of the stolen funds and tendered it as evidence in the ongoing trial.
"The court has remanded both suspects to the correctional centre pending further proceedings."
"The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and warned against criminal activities, stressing that offenders will be brought to book."
