Paul Onuachu is three goals away from a historic Trabzonspor record after his header earned the club a statement victory over league leaders Galatasaray at Papara Park on Saturday.
The Super Eagles striker's 22nd Süper Lig goal of the season — his first against Galatasaray — leaves him chasing the record for the most league goals by a foreign player in a single Süper Lig season at the club. Georgian legend Shota Arveladze holds the mark with 25, set in the 1995-96 campaign, while Alexander Sorloth scored 24 in 2019-20. With seven league games remaining, Onuachu has time to surpass both.

The goal came when Wagner Pina beat Ismail Jakobs down the right flank and delivered a cross that Onuachu headed home.

It was a significant moment for the 31-year-old, who had previously struggled to score against Galatasaray. He has now netted against all three of Turkey's traditional big clubs, having scored twice against Fenerbahce and once against Besiktas.
Onuachu leads the Süper Lig scoring charts by six goals, with Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir second on 16.
On Saturday, Galatasaray arrived without Victor Osimhen, sidelined with a fractured forearm suffered in the Champions League defeat to Liverpool, while Leroy Sane was suspended and Gabriel Sara was injured.
The goal takes Onuachu's overall Trabzonspor tally to 41 across all competitions since joining on loan from Southampton in 2023-24 before making the move permanent last summer. This season, he has scored 24 goals and added two assists in 26 appearances — a return bettered only by Harry Kane among the top scorers across Europe's ten major leagues in 2026.
