OODUA People's Congress Reformed (OPC-R) has raised concern over the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, urging authorities to take decisive steps to protect lives and property, particularly those of non-indigenes residing in the state.
A statement issued by the National President of OPC-R, Chief Dare Adesope, emphasised that Nigeria's Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to live, work, and own property in any part of the country, stressing that such fundamental rights must be upheld at all times.
Adesope noted that it is the responsibility of governments at all levels, especially state governments, to ensure the safety and security of all residents without discrimination. It warned that security should not be selective, adding that every Nigerian, regardless of ethnic background, deserves equal protection under the law.
He noted that the loss of innocent lives and destruction of property have continued to inflict hardship on many families. particularly members of the Yoruba community, who have reportedly lived peacefully and contributed to the socio-economic development of the state.

''The Yoruba, as a people known for hospitality, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, the stakeholders said it is only fair that they, alongside other non-indigenes, receive equal respect, protection, and a sense of belonging wherever they reside in the country. It is only fair that our people, and indeed all non-indigenes, receive the same respect, protection, and sense of belonging in every part of Nigeria.
''I therefore respectfully appeal to the Governor of Plateau State to take urgent and decisive action to address the security challenges in the state. More importantly, there must be a thorough investigation into these unfortunate incidents, and those responsible must be identified and brought to justice. Justice is essential not only for accountability but also for lasting peace.
''Furthermore, the Plateau State Government should provide adequate support and compensation to families who lost loved ones, as well as to individuals whose homes, businesses, and properties were destroyed. Such assistance will help ease their suffering and demonstrate the government's commitment to justice, fairness, and the welfare of all residents.''
Adesope has also condemned a recent attack by known Fulani herdsmen on a Yoruba community in Matale Village, Imeko-Afon LGA, Ogun State.
He expressed concern over the incident, where a young farmer, Isaach Bamgbola, reportedly had his hand severed with a cutlass, also launched an attack on the villagers before Oodua People's Congress reformed members overpowered and hand them over to the police.
Adesope described the incident as brutal and unacceptable, urging both the security agencies and state government to investigate, bring those responsible to justice, and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.
