The 2026 Osun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has raised concerns over an alleged plan by Governor Ademola Adeleke to orchestrate a campaign of calumny against his ambition ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Oyebamiji said the alleged strategy by his political opponents, particularly the incumbent administration, is aimed at misleading the public and weakening his growing support base across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday through the Coordinator of his Media Fronts, Adebayo Adedeji, the APC candidate alleged that the purported plan involves the coordinated spread of negative publications, falsehoods, and malicious narratives across newspapers, radio, television, and social media platforms.

According to him, the intention is to damage the image of Oyebamiji, whose governorship aspiration, he said, continues to gain significant momentum across Osun State.

“It is no longer in doubt that the people of Osun have moved beyond seeing AMBO as just another candidate. Across communities, he is increasingly regarded as a governor-in-waiting, one who has consistently demonstrated the qualities of intentional and purposeful leadership, along with the capacity to steer the state towards progress and financial stability,” the statement read.

“Having failed in their desperate search to link Asiwaju Oyebamiji to any credible wrongdoing, the outgoing administration has now resorted to sponsoring outright falsehoods and coordinated smear campaigns. This campaign of calumny, we are informed, is designed to be sustained relentlessly until the day of the election in a misguided belief that such tactics can diminish his growing electoral value and chances.”

He admonished the people remain vigilant and to discountenance any such baseless publications and broadcasts, which are nothing more than a low-level and backdoor strategy aimed at misleading the electorate.

Meanwhile, Adeleke in a statement through his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, held that Osun people are fully aware of Oyebamiji's sordid past from investment agency, finance commissionership to waterway parastatal, submitting that no amount of propaganda can clean up the unelectable candidate of the APC.

“Osun people are living witnesses to AMBO leading role in the half salary saga, the sale of Osun shares at Omoluabi bank, the mismanagement of Osun assets in Lagos and Abuja, the non-payment of pension debt, the almost a thousand waterways deaths while Oyebamiji was the head of the national waterway agency among others.”

He noted, “We have been flaunting Governor Adeleke's achievements across major towns in Osun state and across the sectors. Osun people saw in real time what their money was expended on from roads to bridges to water facilities to stadium to cooperative financing, to agriculture mechanisation to school and health sector upgrade.”
