A coalition of civil society organisations under the aegis of Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) has rejected calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the redeployment of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The coalition’s position follows petitions reportedly submitted by the APC and NNPP to the electoral body, seeking Agboke’s removal ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

In a statement issued by its Director of Operations and Public Affairs, Adeyefa Adeyemo, the group expressed confidence in the leadership of INEC in the state, noting that the commission has demonstrated neutrality in its preparations for the August 15 governorship poll.

According to the coalition, the electoral body under Agboke has maintained professionalism and contributed to a stable and peaceful pre-election environment.

The group commended INEC’s conduct so far, urging stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process in the state.

He said, “While we are not opposed to administrative changes within INEC carried out in good faith, any move perceived as an attempt to manipulate the electoral process or suppress the will of the people will be strongly resisted. We use this opportunity to pass a vote of confidence on Agboke.

“The people of Osun have spoken before, and they will speak again loudly and decisively in support of the people’s governor.

“We therefore call on INEC to uphold its constitutional mandate and ensure that no action is taken that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

“We firmly say no to any attempt to subvert the will of the masses. We remain vigilant and committed to resisting any external influence on the outcome of the August 2026 governorship election. The will of the people must prevail.”
