The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the Accord Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and 12 other political parties to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election, leaving out the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party.

The INEC’s Public Affairs Officer, Musa Olurode, disclosed on Sunday on behalf of the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner that 14 parties successfully complied with the Commission’s requirements within the stipulated time frame.

He said, “Following the conclusion of party primaries, the names and particulars of their candidates were validly uploaded and released by the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.

“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Osun State Governorship Election, the Commission has published the personal particulars of candidates (Form EC9). Copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, together with academic credentials and other submitted documents, will be displayed at the INEC State Office, all 30 Local Government Area Offices, and the Area Office in Osun State on Monday, 16 February 2026. Political parties, candidates, and members of the public are advised to inspect the documents as provided by law,” the statement said.

INEC clarified that “only these 14 political parties, having met the constitutional and regulatory requirements within the prescribed period, are eligible to participate in the election.

“The Commission, under the leadership of the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, reassured the electorate of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and credible elections.

“INEC urges political parties and the public to continue supporting the Commission in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement added.
