The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke's claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu supports his re-election bid, describing the assertion as misleading.
Oyebamiji cautioned the governor against spreading what he termed falsehoods ahead of the 2026 governorship election, insisting that the President would not endorse poor performance.
The rebuttal followed remarks by Adeleke during a meeting with members of his cabinet and leaders of the Accord Party, where he reportedly claimed that Oyebamiji lacked the backing of President Tinubu and dismissed the notion of federal influence in the forthcoming poll.
Responding through his campaign organisation, coordinated by Adebayo Adedeji, Oyebamiji said the governor’s claim was “false, unfounded, and a calculated attempt to mislead the people of Osun State.”
He noted, “The claim by Adeleke is a desperate move to shore up the discombobulated image of the Governor, whose administration has failed to provide purposeful and effective leadership in nearly four years in office.
“President Tinubu does not believe in the leadership capacity of Adeleke, hence the reason for rejecting his overtures to defect to the APC last year. President Tinubu does not tolerate and feel at home with politicians who prioritize their stomach over the well-being of the people they lead. Adeleke does not meet the President's standard of a good leader.
“President Tinubu detests a leader whose record on transparency and accountability is warped and unbecoming, like that of Governor Adeleke.
Adedeji said, “It is on record that our principal, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), recently had an audience with the President, where he shared his thoughts for the development of Osun State with the President. AMBO articulated clear strategies to replicate the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, particularly in critical sectors such as education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
“Therefore, the President would not abandon a serious contender and tested public administrator like AMBO and pitch tent with a bumbler desperately seeking an unmerited second term.”
