Speaking at the distribution of the motorcycle held at Osun State Police Command, the ALGON chairman, Abiodun Idowu, who is the chairman of Ifedayo local government, said initiative aims at enhancing rapid response, improving patrol efficiency, and supporting ongoing measures to curb crime and ensure the safety of residents.

He noted that as the government closest to the grassroots, they understand the peculiar security challenges within communities and they are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively.

According to him, the success of this initiative is a direct product of the growing autonomy of local governments. When local governments are empowered to manage their resources, set their priorities, and respond swiftly to the needs of their people, the impact is immediate and far-reaching.

“Autonomy enables us to act without undue delays, to design solutions that are tailored to our local realities, and to take responsibility for the security and welfare of our communities.”

Idowu disclosed, “The provision of these 300 motorcycles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria. It shows that when empowered, local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development.

“The motorcycles we are distributing today will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. This initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of our state is left vulnerable.”

Speaking on behalf of security agencies, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, stressed that “Security is a collective responsibility, the challenges we face today require collaboration, partnership, and sustained support from all stakeholders.”

He affirmed that “The donation of this motorcycle will undoubtedly enhance our operational capacity, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, and will improve response time and patrol courage.”

He commended ALGON for the intervention and assured them that the motorcycles will be used judiciously, lauding President Bola Tinubu for making giving all the LGAs financial autonomy.

Similarly, the leadership of All Progressives Congress(APC) through its Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, lauded the reinstated APC council executives assuring that more gestures are still coming for the people of the state through them.
