A member of Osun State House of Assembly representing Iwo Constituency, Adesina Rabiu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rabiu, who had last week tendered his resignation letter from Accord party and dumped Governor Ademola Adeleke, later rescinded his decision when the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, and Olawale Rasheed visited him on Monday.

He, however, held a meeting with the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday, alongside Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi and a House of Representatives member, Wole Oke.

Speaking with The Nation, Oke said: “Rabiu has joined our party, APC. Eighteen more lawmakers will join us very soon. Accord is empty, I can tell you this for sure.”

Fadeyi said: “APC is winning the 2026 Osun governorship election. We will also record a remarkable victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu next year.”

Reacting to the defection, Accord Party Chairman in Iwo, Chief Alidu Adeoye, described Rabiu as a liability and an embarrassment to the party.

He said: “The lawmaker has constituted himself into a nuisance. He has been a disappointment to his constituents from 2022 to date. Accord Party has refrained from acting against the lawmaker.

“When he was invited to the Government House a few days ago, we knew he wouldn’t stay any longer because his request for a second term ticket is a violation of the zoning formula operating in Iwo State Constituency.

“Besides his abysmal performance, which has made the party a laughing stock among Iwo people, Accord cannot violate the zoning formula, which confirms that Isale Oba is the next area to produce a state lawmaker.

“We apologise to the state leadership of the party and our dear governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for fielding and sustaining such a failed politician in the first place. We assure the citizens that Accord Party in Iwo will never support such mediocrity again.”
