…seeks Tinubu intervention over Osun council crisis

Federal and State Assembly lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and pledged support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s 2026 re-election bid under the Accord Party.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo on Saturday night.

The lawmakers also urged the President to intervene in the lingering local government crisis in the state.

Reading the communiqué on behalf of the legislators, Deputy Minority Leader of the National Assembly, Senator Lere Oyewumi, commended Governor Adeleke for what he described as notable achievements in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, and democratic governance.

“Having reviewed the performance of the Governor in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, and democratic stability, we unanimously endorse and give our total support to His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for a second term in office in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress for Osun State,” Oyewumi said.

The lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence in the Osun PDP State Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, warning individuals parading themselves as party executives to desist.

They further called on President Bola Tinubu to direct what they described as “illegal occupants” of local government councils in the state to vacate their positions immediately to forestall further unrest.

Responding to questions from journalists, Oyewumi maintained that the party’s position on the 2027 presidential election remained unchanged.

“On the party endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, nothing has changed. It is the party stance to back him in 2027 and also back Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026,” he said.

Lawmakers present at the meeting included Hon Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), five other federal legislators, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Egbedun, his deputy, Hon Akinyode Oyewusi, and other members of the state assembly.
