Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has donated N20 million to victims of the recent rainstorm that caused widespread destruction in Osogbo, offering relief to affected residents and pledging continued support for recovery efforts.
The Nation recalls that the Saturday rainstorm resulted in loss of lives and extensive property damage, leaving many residents homeless and stranded.
Fadeyi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Environment, announced the donation in a statement issued on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bashorun Desmond.
He said the intervention is targeted at victims whose properties — including private residences, shops, food canteens, markets, mechanics’ workshops, police stations, public schools, and hospitals — were damaged by the windstorm.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the good people of Osun Central Senatorial District, especially Osogboland and other towns and communities impacted by the disaster,” he said.

The lawmaker also highlighted the readiness of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilise support to complement ongoing efforts in disaster mitigation, prevention, and response to flooding and related incidents.
Fadeyi added that his understanding of the trauma and hardship caused by such disasters informed his prompt engagement with NEMA to facilitate additional assistance and ease the suffering of affected residents.

“This gesture reflects love, compassion, and a strong commitment to the safety and welfare of the people of Osun Central Senatorial District,” he stated.
Describing the level of devastation as deeply saddening, the Senator revealed that hundreds of buildings were destroyed by the windstorm, leaving many families displaced and distressed.
“I understand what they are going through. This support is to demonstrate empathy and solidarity—we stand with them in this difficult time,” he added.
Fadeyi said the distribution will be done at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo from Friday.
