A House of Representatives aspirant, Chief Akogun Raji Abioye, has said the defection of five National Assembly members from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicated that voters in Osun State are poised to reject Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term bid in the 2026 governorship election.

Abioye, who spoke with journalists after meeting APC leaders from Osogbo, Olorunda, Orolu and Irepodun local government areas, urged party stakeholders to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections.

He maintained that the state stands to benefit more by aligning politically with the ruling party at the federal level, arguing that granting Adeleke a second term would further limit Osun’s access to federal leverage and development opportunities.

The APC chieftain added that party members should begin sustained grassroots engagement, including door-to-door campaigns, to persuade residents on the need to return a progressive government in the state.

“The emergence of Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji(AMBO) has made it easy for us as a party because his experience will deliver an inclusive government which everyone of us will benefit.”

The aspirant said the decision of members of National Assembly including Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Hon. Oluwole Oke (Obokun/Ori-Ade), Hon. Sanya Omirin (Ijesa South Federal Constituency), and Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro (Ife Federal Constituency) to dump the PDP was not only a national political development but also a pointer to what he termed a “shifting tide” that Osun electorate should take seriously.

According to him, the alignment of the federal lawmakers with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu underscores confidence in the administration’s policies and reform agenda, adding that Osun must not isolate itself from the centre.

He maintained that the defections have strengthened the APC’s national structure and morale, expressing optimism that the momentum would translate into victory for the party in Osun in 2026.
