Over 150 civilians were rescued when the troops of Operation Hadin Kai, a military offensive against Boko Haram and splinter groups, foiled terrorist attacks on civilian convoy along Buratai–Kamuya axis in Northeast Nigeria.
Spokesperson of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said civilians were rescued at about 2:50pm, on Monday, March 30 when troops under Sector 2 deployed at Dutse Kura came under attack while escorting civilians.

Uba said the troops “decisively” engaged the terrorists, who were in 17 vehicles, after surveillance assets identified the insurgents attempt to abduct the 250 civilians, which include women and children.
He said, “In a swift and coordinated response, the Quick Response Force reinforced the location, repelled the attack and launched a pursuit towards the Mangari area, forcing the terrorists to abandon all abducted civilians and vehicles.

“All rescued civilians, estimated at over 150, were safely recovered and moved to Buratai for onward movement to reunite with their families.”
Uba said that while troops were in pursuit of the terrorists, they encountered an improvised explosive device along the Bula Zarma–Mangari axis, which severely injured five soldiers.

He said the wounded personnel were promptly evacuated for specialist medical care.
The military spokesperson said the operation highlighted the high level of vigilance, rapid response capability and effective presence posture of Operation Hadin Kai forces across the Northeast.
“It further reassures the populace of the military’s commitment to stabilisation efforts, protection of civilians, and sustained offensive pressure on terrorist elements,” Uba said.
