Hundreds of residents in Warri South and Uvwie local government areas in Delta State have received health care and humanitarian support from two Rotary Clubs in separate outreach programmes.

In Warri, the Rotary Club of Warri Central offered free prostate screenings for men over 40 years, and HPV tests for women over 25 at Ogwan Olodi Hall in Okere Urhobo community.

No fewer than 100 residents benefitted from the exercise aimed at early detection of prostate and cervical cancers.

Club President, Rotarian Efetobore Tobrise, said the initiative underscored Rotary’s commitment to disease prevention.

“These tests align with Rotary International’s focus on disease control and prevention,” she said, urging residents to make regular health checks a priority.

Immediate Past President and Project Chairman, Rotarian Isioma Uwagbai, advised participants with abnormal results to promptly consult physicians.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the club, praying for sustained support to expand such life-saving interventions.

In Uvwie, the Rotary Club of Effurun City Centre, in collaboration with Igho Ighomrore, a councillor, distributed mini bags of rice, wrappers and cash to over 400 women in Urhumarho community.

Ighomrore, who also serves as president of the club, marked his birthday with the outreach.

“The best way to celebrate is to empower others, especially the elderly women in our community,” he said, noting that the effort aligned with Rotary’s focus on community economic development.

Foundation Chairperson, Rotarian Joy Onwuka, said members quickly embraced the project as “another opportunity to put smiles on the faces of the people in our mandate area.”

The event drew personalities, including Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside other civic leaders and Rotarians.
